How to combat declining organic reach on social media and outsmart the algorithms...

I recently read a great blog post from Hubspot Titled "The Decline of Organic Facebook Reach & How to Outsmart the Algorithm" by Sophia Bernazzani | @soph_bernere.

This is a really important topic and a great post from Sophia, here is my 2 cents on the topic:

How (And Why) Organic Facebook Reach Has Declined Over Time

This is a simple equation of supply and demand. Each person only has one news feed and as more content is uploaded to the Facebook platform, particularly by large corporates who are diverting advertising dollars away from traditional media and towards social media, the less space there is for organic (free) content.

Bernazzani notes that you should assume Facebook's organic reach will eventually arrive at zero and if you really want to reach your target audience on Facebook, you’ll need to supplement your organic efforts with some paid advertising - I agree.

Here is a quick summary of Sophia's fantastic tips on how to deal with decreasing organic reach. You can read the full post here:

- Be more selective about what you post

- Remind your Fans they can go to Pages Feed on the left sidebar of their News Feed to see content from Pages they've Liked

- Educate your super fans that they can update their notification settings from your Page

- Encourage fans to engage with your posts when they do see them, so they see more of them

- Share engaging videos on Facebook

- Broadcast on Facebook Live

- Re-allocate your time and effort toward your owned assets

- Start treating Facebook like a paid ad platform

- If you do advertise, go beyond the basics
